ANU is an education-intensive research institute that has a unique structure and research profile. The seven ANU Colleges combine the Faculties and research focussed Centres with the Institute of Advanced Studies established in 1946.

The ANU is committed to working with both the private and public sectors to produce benefits through knowledge transfer. Through the OC, the ANU establishes flexible relationships with industry and government organisations to undertake both collaborative research and the commercialisation of its intellectual property. The University has an established record of licensing its inventions to industry as well as developing successful spin-outs.
