Over 1 billion people now live on less than one dollar per day with the majority of these being women. Additionally, the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) predict that the number of undernourished people in the world will climb to 1.02 billion, the majority of which are women and children. With the impacts of global climate change, these numbers may rise in the future.

Senator the Hon Penny Wong, Minister for Climate Change and Water, will launch UNIFEM Australia’s Spring Campaign at the ANU College of Law on Tuesday 1st September.  Dr Sharon Bessell from the ANU Crawford School of Economics and Government, College of Asia and the Pacific, will also speak at the launch. UNIFEM is the United Nations Development Fund for women and the Spring Campaign is focusing on food security.

When: Tuesday 1st September

Time: 1 PM – 2 PM
