BAppSc (Environmental Biology) University of Technology Sydney

Professional Background
Since his appointment in 1996, Cary has been Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in bushfire science in the Fenner School of Environment and Society (and predecessor departments) at the Australian National University. At various times he has accepted Ministerial appointments to the federal Bushfire Research Advisory Group, the Bushfire Council of the Australian Capital Territory, and the NSW Parks and Wildlife Advisory Group.
He is an Associate Editor and a member of the Editorial Advisory Committee for the International Journal of Wildland Fire, and represents The ANU on the Bushfire CRC Stakeholder Advisory Council.

Research and Teaching Interests
Geoff convenes the 'Fire in the Environment' course and contributes to 'Weather, Climate & Fire' in the Fenner School of Environment and Society at ANU. Geoff is a researcher in Project B.1.2 of the Bushfire CRC, addressing the effectiveness of varied approaches to managing bushfire risk. He leads or has recently led projects on the importance of climate change for fire management and carbon dynamics, funded by the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change and the Department of Climate change. He co-leads an international group of researchers comparing the behaviour of landscape-fire-succession models, funded by the US National Centre for Environmental Analysis and Synthesis, the Canadian Forest Service and the US National Fire Plan.
