Ian Fry
Part-time PhD scholar researching the interface between scientific advice and policy making in the context of land use, land-use change and forestry under the Kyoto Protocol
Professional Background
Ian holds Bachelor of Applied Science - Biology (Canberra CAE), Graduate Diploma in Media (Canberra CAE), Master of Environmental Studies (Macquarie University), Post Graduate Diploma in International Law (Australian National University - ANU), Masters in Environmental Law (Merit) (ANU).
Since 1998 Ian has worked as the International Environmental Advisor to the Government of Tuvalu, primarily focussing on climate change. He attends climate change negotiations as part of the Tuvalu Government delegation and represents the Alliance of Small Island States in various negotiations. He has also attended IPCC experts meetings on land use, land-use change and forestry.
Ian is currently a part-time PhD scholar at the Fenner School of Environment and Society at Australian National University where his research is focussing on the interface between scientific advice and policy making in the context of land use, land-use change and forestry under the Kyoto Protocol.
Research and Teaching Interests
Ian also undertakes consultancy work for UNDP,UNEP and various other institutions primarily aimed at capacity building for climate change negotiators in developing countries. He has facilitated climate change capacity building workshops in Cook Island, the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, the Marshall Islands, Nepal, Samoa, Thailand (for South East Asian countries), Tuvalu, Vietnam and various pre-COP locations for Least Developed Countries.
