Age Group: 2 years 9 months to 5 years
Three year olds continue to develop their independence and have acquired a wide range of skills. The Echidna Room continues to provide this age group with a supportive and nurturing environment. Activities are introduced which foster and challenge the child's interest and abilities during this period of transition before entering the preschool room. The Wallaby Room staff interact closely with children from the Echidnas. Toilet training is achieved prior to or upon entering this section.
In the Wallaby Room the children are introduced to a range of cognitive and play experiences. Familiar activities are continued, such as construction, manipulation of materials, puzzles, art and fine motor skills development. Music is included in the program, as are excursions and special visitors throughout the year. Children are introduced to activities in readiness for entering the early years of school.
The preschool teacher oversees a cohesive program for children in both sections, to ensure consistency in meeting each child's individual and developmental needs. Gross motor skills development and other outdoor activities are provided for in a large bushland playground shared by both sections. This playground is situated opposite the beautiful Lake Burley Griffin.
