Our Philosophy

We take a holistic and inclusive approach to caring for and educating our children and aim to develop not only every child’s cognitive ability but also their social, physical, linguistic and emotional skills. Every child is respected as a unique person with their own interests, needs and energy levels. We believe in providing an enriched, flexible and differentiated curriculum based on observations of each child’s individual strengths and needs.

Our Principles

  • We believe in treating each child kindly and with affection, as if they are our own.
  • We strive to create a welcoming and caring atmosphere with a natural flow of stimulating activities and quiet times, where each child feels safe to seek reassurance.
  • We value the different gifts that each child brings to Heritage and believe in actively listening to each child throughout the day in order to genuinely understand their needs and what is important to them.
  • We believe in fostering an inclusive attitude towards the diversity of cultures, genders and abilities in the community, as well as an awareness of and respect for nature and the environment.
  • We understand that families are their child’s best teacher and aim to foster a genuine partnership with families.
  • We encourage families to contribute their skills, talents and knowledge to the curriculum and to become actively involved in decision making through the Management Committee.
  • We use the Early Years Learning Framework to guide our curriculum planning decisions, which encourages us to stimulate and engage the children by allowing them the freedom to make choices according to their interests, while also encouraging them to investigate new ones.
  • We understand the importance of learning through play and that if the curriculum is too formal and teacher directed, children may learn particular skills but at the expense of the motivation to use them.
  • We believe in guiding children’s behaviour in ways that preserve the dignity and rights of the child at all times.
  • We believe in supporting each child to manage their own behaviour, to understand how their actions affect others, to respond appropriately to the behaviour of others and to communicate effectively to resolve conflicts peacefully.
  • We believe in continuously updating the knowledge of our Educators and actively encourage all Educators to attend training sessions.
  • We believe in fostering a team approach where all our Educators are equally respected and valued for their contribution. We understand that curriculum planning, evaluation and reflection are shared responsibilities focused on ensuring that each child at Heritage realises their full potential.
