Teaching Awards
Recognition is given to ANU staff for excellence in teaching and supervision through internal and national award systems.Within ANU there are the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Education; many of the Colleges are establishing a similar award system, while the Australian Learning & teaching Council (formerly the Carrick Institute) administers the Australian Awards for University Teaching. From 2007 general staff and teaching programs were given recognition through these awards in addition to academic staff members.

1. ANU Awards
The ANU Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Awards recognise and encourage excellence in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision at the University. Students and staff are invited to nominate now for the four awards for Excellence in Education available in 2007; each award carries prizemoney of $4,000
1. AWARD FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE
This award is for an outstanding university teacher; it gives recognition for the excellence of their teaching, outstanding presentation skills and a broad and deep contribution to enhancement of the quality of learning and teaching in the ANU.
2. AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN SUPERVISION
This award recognises a sustained record of strong and innovative commitment to students, and best practice in introducing students to research and research networks.
3. CITATION FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO STUDENT LEARNING To recognize the contribution of general or academic staff to excellent learning and teaching in higher education.
4. AWARD FOR PROGRAM THAT ENHANCES LEARNING To recognize learning and teaching support programs or services that makes an outstanding contribution to the quality of student learning or their experience of education at ANU.
WHO CAN BE NOMINATED?
There are award categories for general and academic staff who:
are full-time or fractional; continuing or contract, individual or team.
have been employed at the ANU for at least 2 years, as evidence of a sustained contribution is required. will be a member of academic staff at the ANU during the period of the Award Committee's deliberations and decision (ie in the semester after nomination).
and one Award category for learning and teaching support programs and services.

WHO CAN NOMINATE?
- Staff who would normally be colleagues of the nominees and be familiar with their teaching or their contribution to the student learning environment or educational experience.
- Students who are either be currently enrolled in a course taught by the nominee or else have been taught or supervised by the nominee within the last three years.
- Colleges and Faculties are also encouraged to develop an internal College or Faculty process which would assist the best academic staff to be nominated.
2. National Awards
The Australian Learning and Teaching Council coordinates the Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT). Recipients and nominees of the ANU Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Education will be eligible to be nominated by the University for these national awards.
The ANU has had good success in these national awards since the inception of the Carrick Institute, in the categories of

- Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning
- Awards for Teaching Excellence
