Ann Kumar Ann L. Kumar (BA, PhD ANU) is a Reader in the Asian History Centre, specialising in Indonesian historiography, politics, and religion. Her current work includes the investigation of a possible pre-historic connection between Indonesia and Japan. Her publications include Surapati, Man and Legend: A Study of Three Babad Traditions, 1976; The Diary of the Javanese Muslim: Religion, Politics and the Pesantren, 1883-1886, 1985; (ed. with J.H. McGlynn) Illuminations: Writing Traditions of Indonesia, 1996; and Java and Modern Europe, 1996.
