Let there be light - Desk lamp project

Create a talking piece, which can serve as a bedside or desk lamp. Experience an introduction to woodworking tools and techniques as you extend your basic woodworking skills, with handmade joints and hand tools while working with integrating simple LED lighting components.

Course outline

For beginner students, you will learn the basics of woodworking tools, starting with preparations and sharpening chisels and plane blades before moving on to making a hand cut joints. For more experienced students or those who have previously done woodworking you will have the option of a more complex design to complete.

Course learning outcomes

  • To develop understanding about blade sharpening
  • be acquainted with basic woodworking tools and equipment
  • have an basic understanding of LED task lighting

Materials list

Students will receive a detailed materials list on the first day. There is no need to bring anything to the first class.
