Course outline

The class will begin with practice in essential drawing skills using graphite, colour pencil and ink. Your subjects will be natural forms such as plants and insects, pebbles and shells, seaweed, seeds and cones. Watercolour and gouache will be introduced and you will be shown how to combine mediums and work on surfaces such as gesso, impasto and collage.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, you should:

  • have enhanced observation skills and understanding of natural forms
  • have basic skills with a range of pencils and drawing techniques
  • have an understanding of basic colour theory and how to paint with watercolour and gouache
  • know how to prepare painting surfaces with different mediums and complete a mixed media work.

Who should enrol

This course is open to all levels of experience.

Course materials

You will receive a list on the first day of class. There is no need to bring anything to the first class.
