An intensive studio workshop where participants will be introduced to the four major areas of art practice: drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. This course is designed to cater to the interests and needs of the participants while providing a general curriculum to introduce art as a form of self-expression. Demonstrations of techniques in each media included. No prior experience necessary but an interest in art is essential.

Contemporary techniques with acrylic painting

Introduction to oil painting

Mosaics for everyone

Mosaics is something that anyone with any level of skill can do. The aim of this class is to provide the skills necessary to design and apply mosaics onto a two dimensional surface. Once this is achieved and if desired, students can adopt a more sculptural approach by building wire armatures to be cemented and ultimately mosaiced. All levels of experience welcome. NB A materials fee of $50 is payable to Janet on the first day of the course.

Painting the Australian landscape

What does the contemporary landscape look like? The aim of this course is to explore an alternative approach to how the Australian landscape can be conceptualised and developed in paintings. Starting from a non-representational form to acute observations of environmental conditions, art works will be studies of exploration and experimentation within the landscape genre. We will begin the first few sessions using acrylic paint on canvas and later introduce a broad range of mixed media material. Instructions will be given in colour composition and techniques. Sculpture for mosaics

Learn to build a sculptural form of your choice beginning with a wire armature and then model the outer form in cement. You will then learn how to apply the mosaic.
