Approved CCE UPS Courses

UPS Workshops

The University Preparation Scheme at ANU
University Preparation Scheme (UPS) courses provide anyone who is 21 years of age by 1 March 2009 and has permanent Australian residency, with a qualification to compete for a place at ANU or other universities. UPS is designed for students who did not complete schooling, or completed schooling a number of years ago. UPS courses enable candidates to develop the necessary academic skills for tertiary study; to gain confidence in the tertiary environment; and to recognise the level of scholarship and commitment necessary to undertake university study.
Assessment is based on performance during the course and on the result from the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT). For more information contact the CCE or look at

http://www.uac.edu.au/
You may also take these courses for general interest.

To qualify for the University Preparation Scheme candidates must enrol in:

ONE of the approved CCE course in section A
OR
TWO of the approved Arts or Asian Studies Faculty-based courses in section B.

a) Approved CCE courses
Introduction to philosophy
Robert Nichols
6-8pm on 13 Tuesdays and 13 Thursdays from 22 July - $795 no discount
Philosophy is the study of big questions – what we can know, why we are here, and how we should live; in short, about life, the universe and everything. To understand key philosophical issues – and to have some fun – we’ll draw examples from real life, books, and movies. The reasoning and writing skills gained during the course will provide a solid foundation for university study.

What is intelligence? Are people’s experiences more important than their biology in shaping their behaviour? How do we remember things? Why do many people hate other races? How does the brain work? What is depression? What does it mean to be rational and how could this be measured? This course will shed light on each of these questions and many others. It will provide a firm foundation for undergraduate study at the ANU.
