Course outline

The course teaches Basic Dutch Conversation, and includes learning to read and write Dutch, with the main focus on speaking and understanding Dutch in everyday situations. In the process, learn more about Dutch history, culture and customs. Learn Dutch with only a minimal amount of grammar. Frequently used Dutch vocabulary, expressions and basic grammatical patterns will be gradually introduced during the course. Dutch is learned and studied worldwide by many people and, contrary to what many Dutch people would have you believe, it is a relatively easy language to learn, particularly for speakers of English, because of the many similarities in vocabulary and the regularities of the language.

The course is based on Chapter 1 to 5 of the book Complete Dutch, although the pace of the course and the exact number of units covered will vary according to the group. The textbook will be supplemented by audio and video material as well as by other print sources.
