For security reasons, we do not allow multiple concurrent usage of individual usernames/passwords. In addition, we do not issue nor authorize customers to distribute identical passwords to multiple individuals. Therefore, beginning in 2001 administrators (librarians) at licensed sites requiring remote logins will be issued registration keys that can be distributed to their authorized users. A maximum of 50 keys per institution will be issued. Institutions requiring more than 50 keys should contact their IDEAL sales representative, who, in turn, will approve or disapprove their request. Each key will be unique and only allow one registration; once it has been successfully used it will expire. To prevent remote users who leave licensed institutions from having access rights in perpetuity, each key will be associated with the licensing institution's access rights from January 1 through December 31 of any given year. Therefore, the institutional administrator (librarian) will need to distribute new keys to each authorized user who continues to need remote access at the beginning of each calendar year.
Remote users who have been issued a key can go to the "IDEAL User Registration"
page located at:
http://www.idealibrary.com/registration/users
where they can register for an individual username/password account, enter their registration key, and be associated with the appropriate access rights.
European based institutions requiring remote login keys should contact:
Sinead Murphy
sinead_murphy@harcourt.com
all other institutions should contact:
Marcia Powell

Toll free and direct dial telephone numbers are now available for IDEAL users requiring administrative and technical assistance. In addition to the existing feedback links on IDEAL, users can now access toll free technical help in the US and Canada, by dialing: 877.339.7062. Direct dial assistance is available at: 817.820.3712. [from 26/8/01 toll free number from Australia (1-800-1-28144) Because of the high cost of incoming calls from international toll free numbers, analysts have been instructed to obtain the caller's name and telephone number then return the call immediately.]
The e-mail address for the IDEAL Technical Support Center is:
tscideal@hbtechsupport.com
and technical and administrative support questions, such as IP address
changes and contact information updates can be submitted in writing to
this e-mail address.
The IDEAL Technical Support Center is open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM Central Time on standard business days. The center is dedicated to providing fast and accurate technical support for IDEAL users. The cost for electronic access is 90% of the current list price of all the journals to which you subscribed in 1995. If your print subs in 1995 were $10,000 and the cost of those same subs in 2000 is $14,800, then the cost of your electronic access in 2000 is $13,350.
If you chose to retain any print (and there is no requirement to retain any print) then the cost will be at the deep discount price (DDP) of 25% of the list price. Therefore the maximum you will pay is 115% of the 2000 list price of your 1995 subs.
In 1999, Academic Press .... didn't get the DDP implemented in time, so print subs were paid for at the full price. AP therefore charged only the notional additional cost for electronic access of 15% of the 1999 cost of your 1995 print subs.
This was an aberration - a one-off - it will not happen again.
Therefore, the minimum that you will pay in 2000 for AP is 90% of the 2000 list price of your 1995 subs and the maximum is 115%. The difference will depend on how much print you chose to keep.
Academic Press has determined the new 2000 Base Price to be a total increase of nine percent (9%) over the 1999 base price. Renewal invoices will be processed during the month of September, and are due and payable within thirty (30) days of receipt by your organization. (The increases in 1998 and 1999 were 8%.)
Invoices for the 2000 subscriptions were issued to CAUL members 28 October - payment is due (in USD) to CAUL by 8 November to allow payment to be made to Academic Press by 15 November.
Invoices for 1993-1995 back-files were issued aldso on 28 October. If paid to Academic Press by 15 November, a 50% discount on the quoted prices applies.
An offer to take up the 60-title Harcourt
Health Science Medical package has also been made. Datasets
Coordinators should notify CAUL
of their interest in HHS. The offer is based on an assumption that
2000 print subscriptions have already been renewed, and the electronic
licences will therefore cost 15% of the base price.
For the time being, [AP] permit registered guest users to search the tables of contents and abstracts outside of business hours, so it didn't make sense to deny access to these fields for our IDEAL licensees.
The fastest way to identify the content licensed to your university
is to click on "My Profile" at the top of the IDEAL homepage (www.idealibrary.com).
The IDEAL system recognizes your incoming IP, and will provide the following
information:
Click on "My Profile"
Click on "View a List of Your Licenses" under Check Access
Click on "Show Journals" next to each license
Click on individual journal titles to pull up your licensed years,
volume, number, and date of publication.
Attached is a list of CAUL licensees
and the backfiles to which they should have access.
For the original 1996-1998 CAUL licensees, we agreed to waive the fee for post-termination access to the 1996-1998 files through our URL.
Update 9 February 1999.
Academic Press is proposing to charge 15% of the 1999 base fee for
access to the electronic archive. This will be billed through CAUL.
This is calculated by taking the full 1999 base fee (ie the cost of your 1995 subs calculated at 1999 prices), reducing it to 90% of the 1999 base fee for the electronic access, adding the 25% of the full 1999 base price (theoretically the deep discount price for print subs to all your 1995 titles) - to give 115% for the total electronic and print. Then they assume that you have already paid full price for your print subs, and that leaves 15% of the base price left to be paid. The new method of calculation is available as an Excel file.
You will have to continue to pay full price for your print subs in 1999.
