ACS Journal Archives can help advance the work of scientists worldwide, by making the highest quality chemistry content easily searchable and immediately accessible. And in the future, ACS Journal Archives will feature CrossRef and SciFinder linking for added functionality.

Technical

How do you access the ACS Journal Archives?
As with ACS Web Editions, access will be provided via IP address recognition and will not require the use of a User ID and password. Full-text articles from the ACS Journal Archives will be accessible to Archives subscribers from cross-journal search results and individual journal homepages.

What search functionality is available?
Searching between current Web Editions and the Archives can be conducted simultaneously in one search. This seamless searching functionality between current subscriptions and the ACS Journal Archives will allow cross-journal searching by full-text, for all years covering all titles. Single journal or cross-journal searching will be able to be queried by author, title, key-word or through a search of all fields.

In addition, a new search feature called "Citation Find" has been added. This enhancement will allow users the ability to look up specific citations by searching on the journal, volume and page number of the citation or by the article’s unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

Search results will be identified as either an Article ASAP, current subscription, or Archives Article. Subscribers will be able to access the full-text and abstracts of the articles directly from the search results.

What steps is ACS taking to ensure the security and longevity of the ACS Journal Archives?
ACS created a long-term digital archive containing pages scanned at 600 dpi for black and white pages and 400 dpi for pages containing color and halftone images. Copies were made to both DVD and magnetic tape to ensure secure storage. In addition, the electronic data is housed securely in multiple locations around the country. As new advances are made in electronic publishing technology, ACS Publications plans on making further investments in the ACS Journal Archives to increase its value to the scientific community for generations to come.

Will there be separate usage stats for the ACS Journal Archives?
Yes. ACS will provide the Licensee ACS standard usage reports on a quarterly basis for the ACS Journal Archives via e-mail. Additional possibilities for accessing the statistics are currently being looked into — stay posted!

Will I have to sign a new Sales Agreement?
Yes. The Terms and Conditions of Use and Sales Agreements have been revised to include both the ACS Web Editions and the ACS Journal Archives. The new Agreements should simplify the licensing process as they provide one, unified document that covers the entire collection of ACS Publication electronic products. Customers choosing to access or purchase the Archives will be required to sign the new Agreement. The revised Terms and Conditions of Use as well as the revised Sales Agreements can be downloaded from http://pubs.acs.org/liblink.
