Graduate RecruitmentAs early as February and March each year employers begin to recruit final year students for graduate positions commencing at the beginning of the following year. For the best results early preparation is essential. Get ready early by collecting as much information about employers and the opportunities available as possible. Employer EventsDiscover the graduate employment opportunities offered by major companies and public sector departments by attending Careers Fairs and the on-campus Employer Visits Program (EVP). Companies showcased at these events generally expect that you are an Australian Citizen or a Permanent Resident. Check the CAREERS FAIRS and EMPLOYER EVENTS listing under EVENTS in CareerHub for dates and details of upcoming fairs and employer presentations. Employer Promotional MaterialVisit the Careers Centre to view and collect posters and promotional brochures provided by employers. Plus, don’t forget to collect your free copies of the Graduate Opportunities, Unigrad and GradCareers publications, containing employer profiles of major graduate recruiters listed by Degree/discipline, occupation, state and the type of employment programs offered. Job ListingsCheck the jobs listings under the FINAL YEAR AND GRADUATE CATEGORY in CareerHub regularly for listings of graduate job opportunities. Also, check employer websites for the latest information on their employment programs and vacancies, as well as newspapers and other online jobs listings. The LINKS section on CareerHub contains links to some recommended job search sites. Keep your Information up to date on ISISOccasionally the Careers Centre will send information directly to students about vacation and graduate programs on behalf of employers. This may be done via email or mail to your residential address as listed in ISIS. It is essential that you keep you update your contact details on ISIS so you don’t miss out on employer information! Career Centre ResourcesThe Careers Centre can help you prepare for applications and selection processes through:
Feedback: Student Recruitment Experience SurveyFeedback from students and graduates on their recruitment experiences and use of the Careers Centre ensures our service is relevant to student and industry needs. If you have recently applied for graduate or vacation employment we would really appreciate you taking the time to fill out a short recruitment experience survey. Your feedback will assist us to improve our services for future students. The survey will be available each year between May and late October. Graduate Recruitment ProcessesApplicationsThere is no one application process used by all employers. Employers will tailor the process according to their needs. Many employers now use on-line application processes. To apply, you may be required to complete one or a combination of: an application form, cover letter, résumé and a statement in response to the selection criteria. You will also be required to attach a copy of your academic transcript. Academic TranscriptsMost employers will request that you submit a copy of your academic results with your application. Official academic transcripts can be purchased from Student Administration. If sending out multiple copies of your transcript you may wish to get photocopies of your transcript certified (or witnessed) by a Justice of the Peace. If submitting an online application you will need to scan and attach your academic transcript. If this is not possible, unofficial transcripts can be downloaded from ISIS. However, always check with the employer if an unofficial transcript is acceptable first. You will still need to present your official, certified copy of your transcript at interview. Selection ProcessAfter your application has been processed, the next stage of the selection process could involve one or more interviews , ability tests, or assessment centre activity .
