CAEPR PublicationsCAEPR is committed to disseminating its research as widely as possible through print and electronic publication. Since 1991, we have undertaken an active publications program through the CAEPR Discussion Paper series and the CAEPR Research Monograph series, with Professor Jon Altman as series editor. In 1999 CAEPR initiated a third avenue for publications, the CAEPR Working Paper series. In addition, CAEPR Issue Briefs summarise key research for a general audience. Publications SearchUse the form below to search only within CAEPR publications and Abstracts.
The custom search above provides results from CAEPR publications and abstracts.
The CAEPR Discussion Paper series (ISSN 1036-1774) enables us to disseminate research findings without the delays associated with publication in academic journals. Discussion Papers are internally and externally refereed. There are currently over 280 Discussion Papers listed on the CAEPR website, and many are available for free download in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. They are catalogued in order of release.
Working Papers
The CAEPR Working Paper Series (ISSN 1442-3871), often comprising papers of a more technical nature, are only published here on the CAEPR web site. CAEPR working papers are available in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format.
Research MonographsThe CAEPR Research Monograph series (ISSN 1036-6962) publishes collated research results and/or analysis of policy on major themes or issues, the proceedings of workshops or conferences, or reports on major pieces of consultancy research. Abstracts for all CAEPR Research Monographs can be viewed on this website, and selected titles are also available for free download in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. To purchase copies of monographs see our Orders section. Beginning in 2004, CAEPR Research Monographs are available through ANU E Press for print-on-demand sale and for free download in PDF, HTML and mobile device formats.
Issue Briefs 1996-1997CAEPR's core function is to undertake research of the highest academic standard for publication in the CAEPR Discussion Paper and Research Monograph series. When a 1996 reader survey indicated interest in summaries of key research results, CAEPR Issue Briefs were developed and targeted specifically to the Indigenous community sector and other public audiences.

The Macquarie Atlas of Indigenous Australia: Culture and society through space and time
This Atlas is extremely comprehensive, providing a spatial and historic treatment of many subjects and is unique, both in Australia and internationally. It is now available in hardcover, and will be available online via Macquarienet in September 2006. The Atlas of Indigenous Australia will have great influence as a research and public education tool and I recommend it to CAEPR site users in the strongest possible terms. Professor Jon Altman
All events take place in a space, and spaces tell us a story. The distribution of our activities forms patterns which make up a human landscape, and in turn that landscape is a window on our lives. With over 250 full-colour maps, this atlas provides a unique and easily accessible introduction to Australian Indigenous life—as it was in the past, as it has changed over time, and as it is today. It encourages the reader to think about how the effects of geography and spatial relationships mould and influence human societies and cultures through space and time. We invite you to use this atlas as a starting point for further exploration.
