Boyd Hunter has been employed at CAEPR since May 1995. He specialises in labour market analysis, social economics and poverty research. Boyd coordinated the first longitudinal analysis of Indigenous job seekers for the Department of Workplace Relations and Small Business. An important element of this project was to document the dynamics of Indigenous disadvantage within the labour market. He also conducts research into how high rates of Indigenous arrest effects Indigenous employment, education and welfare over the longer-term. He has published extensively in a diverse range of journals spanning across many social science disciplines. Boyd is a joint editor of the journal, the Australian Journal of Labour Economics. He also has experience in both public administration, having worked at the former Department of Social Security and the Department of Industrial Relations. During his undergraduate studies he was full-time Chair of the ANU Union Board for one year when he gained some experience managing that large commercial organisation.

Boyd is currently a member of several professional organisations, including the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS), Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY) and Economics Society of Australia, The 2009 ARACY conference is particularly pertinent for the current Indigenous policy debate as it focuses on 'Transforming Australia for our children’s future: Making prevention work'.
