Bachelor of Biotechnology

The Bachelor of Biotechnology is designed for students interested in the application of biology in the maintenance of high standards of living. Detection and treatment of disease, and treatment and recycling of waste products are but two examples of the practical applications of biotechnology. A search of the World Wide Web will provide up-to-date information on current developments and the variey of job opportunities in this field.

The degree is a three year course containing a core curriculum introducing the basic principles of molecular and cell biology, biotechnology, microbiology, societal and ethical issues in biotechnology and intellectual property. Elective units available within the Faculty of Science allow students to tailor the course to their specific interests such as medical, plant/agricultural or chemical biotechnology. It is also possible to incorporate a program in Bioinformatics within either the Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Biotechnology Degrees.

On completion of the undergraduate degree, students may seek employment with companies developing applications for biotechnology or with regulatory authorities.

See Program Requirements for course structure.
