About the Hindi Font
Reading the Hindi Script: There are two types of Hindi Devanagari pages on this site:
The first type are pages that display the Devanagari script in gif format (like a picture). This will display on Macintosh, Windows and UNIX platforms.
The second are Unicode compliant pages which are theoretically viewable in any Unicode compliant application in a Unicode compliant operating system. A Windows system later than Windows 2000 can be configured to display Devanagari Unicode text. The Indic Regional Settings must be activated.
Writing the Hindi Script:
To enter text in Hindi script interactively to this site you will need to have a Unicode compliant system (Windows 2000 or later) with the Indic Regional settings enabled. The ANU can provide an easy input method for windows systems, that maps the Hindi letters to logical places on the English Keyboard. This involves a program called Keyman. The keyboard layout is available online.
ILKEYB
The other Devanagari script font used on the Hindi Language Studies website is called MSANKET. The MSANKET font is part of the commercially available ILKEYB package, developed by Avinash Chopde (avinash@acm.org).
If you would like to type text in Indian Language Scripts while still using the standard English keyboard you will need to purchase the ILKEYB software.
This Indian Language Keyboard package contains a high quality TrueType font, and a software module that runs in the background under Microsoft's Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 Operating Systems. The software manages the mapping of the ASCII English keyboard to a particular Indian Language Script.
