Stream FourStream Four took an innovative approach to research in Australia, bringing researchers and policy advisers together through the research process to build relationships with the intention of improving the take-up of research into policy. Linkage and exchange approaches like the one used in Stream Four have been developed and championed by the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF). Stream Four has been presented in the CHSRF model – the 1.3.25 documents. The one-page document offers a brief overview of the policy context and findings of each of the reports. The one-page reports may have links to the three-page and 25-page reports if readers are interested in exploring an issue in greater depth. The three-page reports include the policy context and findings, as well as some policy options for Australia and a brief overview of the methods in the report. This section may have links to the 25-page report. For those interested in a particular area the full report is also available. This approach aims to give busy people an opportunity to dip into research projects and look further into areas they may be interested in, without having to read full reports. It also gives readers an idea of which reports may be most relevant for them to read to develop their knowledge of an area of primary health care. Overview of Stream FourStream Four involved 12 projects and research teams throughout Australia. The topics covered everything from depression care in primary health care, management of chronic disease and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care In April 2008 the twelve projects were published as a supplement to the Medical Journal of Australia, which is available online and in hardcopy form from APHCRI. Each of the 12 projects was funded for 12 months and funding in this round totaled $1,724,200.
