Spring Bird Survey

ANUgreen is re-surveying bird populations on the ANU campus and its surrounds, and needs your help!

Volunteering, you can:

• Contribute to the management and protection of our local biodiversity

• Share your skills with less experienced bird watchers if you are experienced

• Learn from experienced bird watchers if you are a newcomer

• Contribute to the implementation of the ANU Environmental Management Plan

• Impress future employers having volunteered your time to protect biodiversity!

• Enjoy a big THANKYOU breakfast at the end of the monitoring morning with fellow bird enthusiasts!

What you’ll need to do as a bird watcher:

• Be available between 6am and 9am (3 hours) to carry out bird watching at the specified sites at the ANU Acton campus and surrounds.

• Don’t worry about getting up early – there will be a big THANKYOU breakfast at the end of the monitoring session at the ANU (9am - 11am)!

• You will be assigned two sites to survey for the morning accross the ANU campus, CSIRO, ANBG, National Museum of Australia, City West and Turner. Novice birdwatchers will be paired with experienced bird watchers.

• Previous Volunteers should contact Coordinator of Volunteers, Beth Mitchell at beth.mitchell@anu.edu.au or call on 0414801126 if you wish to participate. Write in the subject line: “bird survey”

• New Volunteers should complete the volunteer registration form and return by email to beth.mitchell@anu.edu.au with "bird survey" in the subject line, or in person/by post to Beth Mitchell, ANUgreen, John Yencken Building #45, Sullivans Creek Road, Acton ACT 0200

• Applications close Tuesday 14th October 2008 (to assist us in planning catering)

Important information for volunteers

• We will meet at 6am on the steps of the entrance to the John Yencken Building, #45, Sullivans Creek Road, Acton, ANU on the morning of Saturday 18th October.
• Please read Important Information for Bird Watching Volunteers to be well prepared for the event (directions to ANU and meeting point, what to bring, survey methodology).
