Outreach and Education for Sustainability
An essential aspect of pursuing sustainability goals within the University is engaging the entire community, both staff and students, in reaching our goals. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in campus sustainability:
Internships
ANUgreen Office Internships
Offered each semester, ANUgreen Sustainability Internships offer students experience working on campus sustainability projects. Students from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
IARU Sustainability Exchange
Offered over the winter break, this international sustainability exchange offers students the opportunity to work with campus sustainability professionals at IARU partner universities around the world.
GreenSteps Environmental Management Training
GreenSteps is a nationally recognised environmental management training program that gives students the skills to act as environmental change agents in the workplace. This training course covers environmental auditing, project planning, strategic communication and change management.
ANU Sustainability Learning Community
The ANU Sustainability Learning Community (SLC) is a network of students and staff from across the university who are tackling day-to-day environment and sustainability-related issues in the campus community. A major project of the SLC is the student-run Campus Organic Garden.
SEE Sustainability at Work
The SEE S@W program supports staff and students in offices, labs, and residential halls and colleges to innovate and incorporate sustainability practices into their everyday operations. The program offers resources and training to help to be the change you would like to see in your workplace!
Green Groups in Halls and Colleges
Most residential halls and colleges have a green group that works to improve their environmental performance and to raise awareness of environmental issues. Students are encouraged to get involved and help to reduce the environmental impact of their place of residence.
Coursework
At ANUgreen we work with lecturers from across the disciplines to create student projects that both benefit the work of the green office and allow students to get credit for their work. Some of the courses that have included assessable projects for work with ANUgreen include:
- Corporate Sustainability
- Greenhouse Science
- Cities and their Hinterlands
- Human Futures
- Methods for Environmental Decision Making
- Software Engineering
- Marketing
Ask your lecturer if you can include your work on campus environmental management as part of your course’s assessment.
Events
Each year ANU recognises a number of events that raise awareness about sustainability and celebrate the positive actions taken by members of the ANU campus community. These include:
- Celebrate Sustainability Day
- Earth Hour
- World Environment Day
- Annual Biodiversity Surveys
See the News and Events section on the ANUgreen website homepage for information on upcoming events.
