PUBLIC
SERVICES
ANIP provides the opportunity for interns to be placed within the Australian
or the Territory's public service. The Intern completes a research project
on a subject nominated by a department or agency; some past examples
are:
- for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, on Australian government
policy on child abductions, or the implementation of the Convention
on Biological Diversity, or barter in the Russian economy;
- on knowledge management for the Department of Finance, or the impact
of the Asian economic crisis on the number of international students
coming to Australia for the Department of Education, Training and
Youth Affairs;
- for Environment Australia, into the effectiveness of environmental
funding under the National Landcare Program, or Engaging Indonesia
in the conservation of the Southern Bluefin Tuna;
- about the needs of aboriginal legal aid services for the Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander Commission;
- on athletes' perception of harassment for the Women and Sport Unit
of the Australian Sports Commission; or
- evaluating waste water management for ACT Electricity and Water.

Alexandra Gartman was placed
at the Murray Darling Basin Commission. Sue
Burdekin was placed with the Department of Defence. This is what
they say.
