HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There are a minimum of three components of assessment for any Internship course.

The major component is the final research report which will account for at least 70 percent of the final grade.

Each Intern's final research report will be assessed by at least two academics before a final mark is decided. On some occasions the opinion of a third assessor will be sought. Each oral presentation will also be assessed by the Director of the Program. In determining final grades the general contribution and attendance of Interns and supervisors' assessments will be taken into account.

Interns are also required to make an oral presentation on their research report to an audience of their peers at the end of the Internship. Up to 25 minutes is allowed for the presentation, followed by a 15 minute question and answer session. This is worth 20 percent of the final grade. Interns are assessed for their delivery, the content of the presentation and their handling of the question and answer session.

Interns are also required to produce a reflective essay at the end of their Internship. This is not graded. It is an opportunity for Interns to look back on their experience, to note the highs and lows, and also to make any suggestions for improvement in the Program.

Internship A students will in addition be graded on the coursework portion of their Internship, which is worth 10% of the final grade. The specific content of this coursework component varies from semester to semester. The form of assessment will be based on a Policy Brief or Memorandum to be prepared by each student, drawing on the issues and themes raised by speakers during a series of seminars. Although on some occasions assessment will be based on an oral presentation.
