- There shall be a scholarship for award each year known as
the Ken Wanganeen Scholarship in the Australian National Internships
Program (ANIP).
- The scholarship shall be valued at $1,000 or another lower
amount if the fund is not able to support the set amount.
- The scholarship shall be paid in one instalment.
- The scholarship is to assist a student enrolled in the ANIP
who is of Indigenous Australian origin.
- The scholarship shall be tenable for one academic semester.
- The University reserves the right to make no award or to award
the scholarship at other times, in exceptional circumstances.
- The Scholarship shall be awarded to an applicant who:
(i) has been accepted into and enrolled in the ANIP;
(ii) is undertaking the remainder of the degree at any Australian
university; and
(iii) is of Indigenous Australian origin. The applicant must
provide confirmation from a recognised Indigenous organisation
within the community or language group to which he or she
belongs.

An application, set out in a letter, must be lodged when
the application for entry into the ANIP is lodged. The applicant
must organise for the receipt by the University of two references
from people who are well placed to support the application.

The applicant must provide an academic transcript setting
out all previous tertiary study. This academic background
may be taken into account by the selection committee.

The selection will be made once each year until the fund
is able to support the award of a Scholarship for each intake
into the ANIP.

A selection committee of at least three, chaired by the Head
of the Jabal Centre and including a member of staff of the
ANIP, shall select the scholar.

When making a recommendation the selection committee may
take into account:
(i) the academic record of the applicant;
(ii) the reports of two referees familiar with the applicant’s
academic work;
(iii) information which shows that the applicant is or has
the potential to be a leader in the
community; and
(iv) any supporting material supplied by the applicant.

If the successful applicant defers the taking up of entry
into the ANIP the commencement of the scholarship may also
be deferred with the approval of the Chair of the Selection
Committee.

If a scholar fails to enrol for the ANIP or withdraws from
the ANIP, the scholarship must be surrendered.

The scholar must seek the permission of the Chair of the
Selection Committee to hold any other scholarship/award concurrently
with the Ken Wanganeen Scholarship in the ANIP.

The scholar is subject to The Australian National University
Act 1991 as amended, to the Statutes and Rules of the University
as made from time to time, and to resolutions of the Council
and its Committees.

If the scholarship is suspended or terminated the Selection
Committee shall determine whether any refund of scholarship
monies is payable and may determine that the scholarship be
refunded by the scholar to the University in part or in full.

It is anticipated that the Ken Wanganeen Scholarship in
the ANIP scholarship holder may be requested to participate
in publicity of the Scholarship. The scholar may be contacted
for an interview and photograph. The University may also publicise
the Scholarship by publishing the name of the scholarship
holder.

The award of a scholarship does not carry any commitment
by the University for future employment.
