Bernadette Hince has a BA, BSc, MSc, and PhD from the ANU. Her 2005 PhD is on the environmental history of French, Australian and New Zealand subantarctic islands. Her research interests concern the English of the Polar regions, and the history of these regions. She is writing a historical dictionary of Arctic English, which follows her earlier book The Antarctic dictionary: a complete guide to Antarctic English (CSIRO/Museum Victoria, 2000, see www.publish.csiro.au/samples/AntarcticSample.pdf). She is also editing the 1953 Heard Island journals of John Béchervaise for publication.
