The 2016 election of a member of Council by members of the professional staff of the University was held in accordance with the Australian National University Act 1991, the Council (Elections) Statute 2016 and the Council (Elections) Rule 2016.

For the position Academic staff (Institute) member 2 candidates nominated for election. For the position Academic staff (Faculties) member 2 nominated for election. All candidates and their nominators were checked against the academic staff roll comprising those holding a full-time or part-time standard or fixed term academic staff appointment in the University on pay day 16 June 2016 and who were paid a salary by the University on that day. All nominations were in order.

The candidates for the position Academic staff (Institute) member were: Dr Ceridwen Fraser and Professor Tim Senden. The candidates for the position Academic staff (Faculties) member were: Professor Rohan Pitchford and Professor Jan Provis.

An electronic ballot was conducted, using the University's APOLLO system. By the close of the poll, 284 academic staff had registered a vote.

The scrutiny of the electronic count was conducted in the office of the Returning Officer (Corporate Governance & Risk Office) at 12:00pm on Monday 29 August 2016.  Ms Leslie McDonald from the Corporate Governance & Risk Office and Ms Allison Lawrence from the University Legal Office have verified the results of the count.

For the position Academic staff (Institute) member, the votes received on the count of first preferences were as follows:

  • Dr Ceridwen Fraser                     126
