Associate Professor Richard Whiteley

I have served within the ANU for sixteen years and have worked in the tertiary sector for twenty-five. I have a sustained interest in good governance and innovative approaches to quality teaching. I have extensive board and leadership experience within and outside the ANU, including: President of the Australian Design Center (2000-2003) and the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council (2009-2011). I currently serve as a peer for this organization and as an international consultant for the China Academy of Art, Hangzhou.

Within my research, I maintain a high profile, nationally and internationally. My artwork is held in major collections, including the NGA and the Corning Museum of Glass, NY. I am currently leading a multidisciplinary team across ANU (Art, Physics/Engineering and Classics) to research ancient Roman glass. I also led a team of students and staff who designed and produced the Australian of the Year awards.
