MINI-COURSE ON HELIAC PHYSICS

This will be held from Jan 22- Jan 25. It will be an introduction to the physics of the
H-1NF fusion plasma physics experiment national facility, announced in the Prime Minister's Innovation Statement on Dec. 6.

Contact Prof. Robert Dewar, Robert.Dewar@anu.edu.au

Funding for a National Fusion Plasma Research Facility, based on the H-1 Heliac at ANU, was announced in the Prime Minister's Innovation Statement in December. A short course covering theoretical and experimental aspects of toroidal magnetic plasma confinement, with emphasis on H-1, will be held as a satellite meeting in the third week of the Summer School on Computational Physics at ANU. A planning meeting of the Australian Fusion Research Group (AFRG) will also be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 23 January.

The venue will be the Seminar Room in the Link Building (between the Oliphant and Cockroft Buildings) except where otherwise indicated on the attached program.

Financial assistance is available for supervisors and graduate students who are considering collaborative experiments or theoretical work on the facility. Also orders will be taken for a subsidised copy of the text Flux coordinates and magnetic field structure by W.D. D'haeseleer et al. This Springer book retails for $150, but a free copy will be made available to each AFRG site and further copies will be available to attendees for $50 ea.
