Web Browsers

If you are having problems running this site try upgrading to the latest version of your browser and the latest version of QuickTime, which plays the movies.

This page lists the web browsers this "Through Einstein's Eyes" multimedia site works with, and known problems. Updated compatability information is available on the web.

QuickTime

This site requires at least version 6.5 of QuickTime. You can upgrade from the QuickTime site. If you are running the site from a CD, installers should be on it.

Compatible browsers

The "Through Einstein's Eyes" site has been tested on the following systems.

Windows

  • Firefox 1.0 under XP. Preferred browser.
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 under XP. Service Packs 1 and 2.
    • How do I turn off the annoying clicking in Explorer?
      Go to Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio devices.
      Click the 'sounds' tab. In the window, scroll down to 'Windows Explorer' and in the sub menu, highlight 'Start navigation'
      Pull down the drop down box below, where it currently says 'Start' or 'Windows Start' and choose '(none)' instead. Click 'Apply', then click OK, and close the Control Panel.

Macintosh OSX

All browsers tested with Mac OS X 10.3.8.
  • Safari 1.2.4. Preferred browser.
    • Movies embedded in pages may move to overlay text after scrolling the window. Reloading the page fixes this.
  • Internet Explorer 5.2.3.
    • The site does not work well with this browser. Movies load very slowly.
  • Firefox 1.0.
  • Mozilla 1.7.3.
  • Opera 7.54.
  • Camino 0.8.3.

Linux / Unix

As far as we know QuickTime is not supported on Unix based systems. We would be pleased to hear from anyone who gets it working.
