Welcome

Welcome to our homepage. We are a combined theory and experimental group working in the field of ultra-cold atoms. We are located within the Physics Department at Australian National University in Canberra and our group is part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Quantum-Atom Optics.

Currently our experimentalists are pursuing four major goals:

(1) Understanding and developing high brightness atom laser systems based on magnetically trapped atoms, including producing a continuously pumped atom laser.  (2) Coherent atom interferometry with an atom laser beam. (3) Producing and detecting squeezing in atom laser beams, including the development of single atom detectors.  (4) Creation of Bose-Einstein condensates with tunable interactions.

The theory people work closely with the experimental lab as well as investigating EIT, Quantum Control, topological structures in ultra-cold atomic systems and analog gravity in Bose-Einstein condensates.

You can find out more about us on these pages, but if there's something that interests you that's not here let us know.

We also try to get out and enjoy the beautiful environment Canberra has to offer!  See our photo pages.
