INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS

The Visiting Fellowship Program is part of the National Europe Centre’s mission to promote research, education and dialogue between Europe and Australia. The Visiting Fellowship Program is specifically aimed at supporting and hosting local and international scholars wishing to undertake research at the Australian National University.

Research Themes:

Each year the National Europe Centre and the Research School of Humanities announce broad research themes. Applications from scholars interested in these themes from any discipline are welcome. Please note that while priority is accorded to applications addressing these themes, proposals outside these themes will also be considered.

Conditions of Fellowship:

If successful, Visiting Fellows must be in residence at the Australian National University throughout the duration of their fellowship.
The Visiting Fellowship offer does not constitute an offer of employment with the University.

Visiting Fellows are provided with office space and a networked computer providing access to the Internet and email. The Centre also provides some administrative support. In addition, Visiting Fellows are welcome to make use of the University’s libraries.

Visiting Fellows are invited to participate in the Centre’s outreach and teaching activities, including the seminar series, roundtables, workshops, conferences, the European Studies Summer School and the Graduate Intensive Course.

ABOUT THE CENTRE

The Centre was established in 2001 as a joint initiative of the ANU and the European Union. It is a small interdisciplinary research centre supporting primarily postdoctoral and doctoral research, and visiting scholars working in the field of EU and comparative studies concerning Australia and Europe. The National Europe Centre is located at 1 Liversidge Street, on the Acton Peninsula at The Australian National University, Canberra, Australia.

The Centre has links with other Australian and New Zealand EU Centres — Monash European and EU Centre (Monash University), the Innovative Universities European Union Centre (La Trobe University, Macquarie University, Newcastle University, Flinders University, Murdoch University and Griffith University), the National Centre for Research on Europe (University of Canterbury) and the European Union Centres Network (EUCN - University of Auckland, University of Waikato, Massey University, Victoria University of Wellington, Lincoln University, University of Otago).

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Application Form: Applicants should submit a completed application form, together with a CV and list of publications and/or professional activities. To download the application form, click here.

Project Proposal: Applicants should provide a one-page description of their planned research project - see information on the application form.

Referees' Reports: Applicants need to provide the names of two referees who will support their application. Referees should submit their confidential report separately to the National Europe Centre on the form provided, by the closing date of that Call for Applications.
