Sustainable Business Practices
InnovationACT 2009 is committed to encouraging socially and environmentally sustainable business practices to University staff and students and the wider business community.
To that end we strongly encourage teams to:
- Asses the carbon emissions and environmental impact of their business plan
- Mitigate and reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact throughout the business plan including, where appropriate:
- More efficient use of energy for all activities, e.g. building heating and cooling, lighting, IT
- Purchase of green energy,
- Raw materials
(reducing these, sourcing local and sustainable), - Product/ service
(embodied energy, emissions) - Distribution (minimising miles travelled, packaging)
- Waste (minimising, recycling, reusing)
- Consider the implications of their business plan on both the local community
- Consider the effect of patenting and IP protection on global development
