Core_Computer Studies: The File Browser |
To displaying the File Browser go to File > Browse or Window > File Browser The Photoshop 7 file browser enables you to quickly look at image files and folders of images before opening them in Photoshop. This is a useful feature if you are looking for a particular file and remember what its thumbnail looks like but not what you called it! Regardless of what file format images are, the browser will display them.

Not only can you inspect images, you can also use the File Browser to sort, rename, manage and delete both files and folders while working from within the browser. This feature will be very useful when sorting out material for your assessment. (This is a heavy hint here from to be organised!)

Using the File Browser When you click on a thumbnail of an image the information about that file appears in the left hand box above and below an enlarged thumbnail. You can see where, what and when the file was created. As you can see from the screen shot I can tell that this image is in a folder titled 'Bernies place' within another folder called 'fire-images'. You can also see what it is. File information such as name, file format etc is displayed. The File Information pop-up menu at the bottom of the File Browser, has two options. All to view all image information for a file; or EXIF to see information which is imported metadata from a digital camera. In the File browser window Click to select the file. Double click to open the file in Photoshop. To rename either files or folders click on either the file or folder name in the window and rename. Click and drag to other folders - to sort, or trash to delete. To copy a file Option-drag it to a different folder.
