Core_Computer Studies : Linked files

In many applications such as Illustrator, Indesign, and InfiniD you often use what we call Linked files. On web sites all files are linked.

When you move a linked file the original program such as Illustrator,or in the case of the web the browser can not find the file to re-establish the link. To put it simply the files get lost and you have to re-establish the links. This can be annoying unnecessary work and time consuming.

To avoid confusion with linked files:

Keep clear and accurate file directories. Be organized have all your image files in a folder together, your text files together and so on.

Know what is going to go where in other words plan your work.

Before you work on your final piece have all your images organized into one folder. Do not include work that is still in progess as this can confuse you later on as you 'clean up' and move files out of the folder. Often at this stage you move an image that you have used in the project out of the file and then you have broken the link.
