HTML stands for HyperText Mark-up Language. To expalin it is best to break the term up and look at each section and give a bit of history as well. Hyper: Computer programs used to move in a linear fashion. You worked one step at a time. This before this, this before this, and so on. Hyper is the opposite of linear. This language does not work in a linear fashion it is linked information. This means that it allows a person viewing the World Wide Web page to hop about and go anywhere, anytime they want. Text: Text in other words English letters, is what use to write it. Mark-up: Mark-up is like the verb it is what you do. You write in English and then mark-up what you wrote. Language: Language for the simple reason it's a language!
