Core_Computer Studies : To cut a path in Illustrator |
You often need to cut a path this is done by using the scissors tool. With this tool you can cut an open path into two and cut a closed path so that it becomes an open path. |
To split a path:Click on an object to select it to display its anchor points. Click on the path where you want to cut it. If the path is a closed path it will turn it into a single open path. If the path is already and open path it will split it in two. If you have cut on a segment two new endpoints will appear. If you cut on an anchor point new anchor points will be created one on top of another. In other words they are over lapping. These you can pull apart with the direct selection tool. The knife tool. The knife tool slices through both objects and paths Select the knife tool . Click and drag the pointer over the object. If you want to cut in a straight line, with the knife tool selected hold down the Option key as you click on the art board, then drag across the object you want slice.
Note that you cannot cut a type path. If you are not sure what a path is see What is a Path? What are direction and anchor points?
