Core_Computer Studies : Screen capture or Taking screen shots

Managing your work and learning process:

An extremely handy and quick method of taking notes while learning in a digital environment is to take screen shots of your working process. You can take note of what you select in the myriad of options along the way. There is nothing more frustrating than half remembering how you did something.

To avoid forgetting what you did take a snapshot of your computer screen. On a Mac you take a screen shot by holding down the command and shift key and pressing 3.

The image of the screen shot will appear on the desktop named Picture 1. The second screen shot you take will be Picture 2 and so on.

The snapshot is saved as a PDF image file which Acrobat or Photoshop will open it happily. If you open it in Photoshop you can crop the image if you choose or simply print it out.

Paste information like this into your visual journal. Date it and add any other notes you consider useful.

These notes are written for students who undertake the Core Computer course at School of Art, Australian National University. Students of the course should feel free to contact any member of staff with comments questions and general suggestions..
