| The
Workshop has an active program program of distinguished visitors
and artists-in-residence from Australia and overseas whose
specialist expertise complements the teaching of the full-time
Workshop staff. Visiting artists and other professionals in
the field interact with students through workshops, lectures
and demonstrations. They bring to the Workshop a contemporary
approach to design and making, based on the highest standards
demanded by the craft. Art Forum, SofA Gallery, Foyer Gallery
and Photospace provide additional stimulus from a wide range
of visiting artists, crafts people and theorists.

| Applications
are invited from school leavers and mature age students from
Australia and overseas. Prospective students are strongly
encouraged to visit or make contact with the Workshop to discuss
the various courses with staff. Students are especially encouraged
to visit the Workshop on ANU Open Day, held in September each
year, to talk with staff and students, see the Workshop facilities
as well as exhibitions of staff and student work. All applicants
are interviewed and must present evidence of relevant work.

Students are encouraged to exhibit their work. In the
past students have exhibited in Parliament House, the High
Court of Australia, the Link and Beaver Galleries in Canberra,
and interstate at Melbourne's Meat Market Craft Centre and
the Crafts Council Gallery in Sydney. The Workshop also plays
a leading role in the life of the ACT arts and crafts community.
The expertise and knowledge of staff and senior students is
always in great demand for lectures and practical workshops.
