Undergraduate
students must undertake Art Theory as part of their course
of study. In Core Studies the two introductory units deal
with basic issues in art theory, art history and cultural
studies. The focus is on art of the modern period and visual
practices from a range of cultural traditions are addressed.
The units aim to equip students with basic skills and knowledge
that will complement and enhance their workshop studies.
In
the later semesters students can select from a menu of courses
designed to reflect the interests and diverse range of practices
taught in the School. Through undertaking Complementary
Studies or Additional Studies units within the Art Theory
Workshop, students have the option to pursue an individual
work proposal under the supervision of a Theory staff member.
This option can be tailored to meet the specific research
interests of Honours students . The individual research
unit is also offered as an option to third year students
undertaking theory as a Complementary Studies unit.
