The Art Theory Workshop offers a diverse range of options for study and research for postgraduate students. Students enrolled in coursework degrees undertake their Core and Additional Theory units through the Art Theory Workshop. These units introduce a range of methods for the study, interpretation and evaluation of works of art, craft and design, structured through first-hand study of key images, objects and texts.

The Art Theory Workshop also provides supervision for research students undertaking the Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Supervisors assist with the sub-thesis or dissertation component of the student's research, and also attend the weekly postgraduate seminar program. Postgraduate students may also audit undergraduate theory courses in consultation with their supervisors and the lecturer concerned.
