Textiles is one of the most exciting and diverse areas
of contemporary artistic practice embracing new technologies,
opportunities and career paths. The applications of textiles
cover a broad range from a design-oriented emphasis, incorporating
textile works for fashion or interior design, to expressive
art forms which may encompass unique works, installation,
and performance. Growth areas of employment for graduates
are in art in public places, digital imaging and website
design, environment and heritage interpretation, community
cultural development and curatorial work.
The
School of Art Textiles Workshop provides courses at both
undergraduate and graduate levels and facilities for students
wishing to explore the broad range of textile studies,
preparing them for careers in all aspects of the visual
arts, design, and related areas. With the expertise of
its academic staff, advanced technical facilities, and
location close to Australias national collecting
institutions, the ANU School of Art Textiles Workshop
provides an excellent environment for study and research.
