The
Workshop is well-resourced and provides for the necessary
range of skills and processes encompassed by the program.
Facilities exist for students to explore a broad range of
media and techniques including wood and stone carving, modelling,
and casting in metal, cement fondue and plaster. Metal fabrication
is assisted by a comprehensive range of tools including
MIG, TIG oxyacetylene and stick welders, metal bender, guillotine,
oxy-cutting equipment, and forging facilities. Construction
in timber and related media is supported by a wood working
studio housing drill presses, bench, band and radial arm
saws, sanders etc. The Workshop has a number of spaces which
may be used for drawing, viewing of work, and installation-based
practice. In addition, through the Complementary Studies
Program, students can access the resources of other Workshops
within the School and University, including the three dimensional
modelling and drawing facilities offered by the Schools
Computer Art
Studio.

staff are all practising sculptors with national and international
reputations providing a high standard of expertise to meet
the conceptual and skills-based requirements of the program.
The expertise of the Workshop staff is complemented by a
dynamic program of visiting artists and artists-in-residence
who interact with students through workshops, lectures and
demonstrations. Previous visitors include international
sculptors such as Zoe Walker, Claire Barclay
and Kevin Henderson from Scotland, Daniel Brandely
from France, Australian artists Mikala Dwyer, Fiona

Applications
are invited from school leavers and mature age students
from Australia and overseas. Prospective students are strongly
encouraged to visit or make contact with the Workshop to
discuss the various courses with staff. Students are especially
encouraged to visit the Workshop on ANU Open Day, held in
September each year, to talk with staff and students, see
the Workshop facilities as well as exhibitions of staff
and student work. All applicants are interviewed and must
present evidence of relevant work. For prospective students
who have not had opportunities to work in a sculptural medium
prior to application, an awareness of contemporary sculptural
practices is an advantage.
