PHOTOGRAPHIES: NEW HISTORIES, NEW PRACTICES - July 10 - 12, 2008

 

 

An international conference to be held at the Finkel Theatre, Australian National University.

Organised by the ANU School of Art in conjunction with VIVID, the inaugural National Photography Festival. Supported by the ANU Research School of Humanities and the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences. VIVID will be held in Canberra from 12 July to October 2008.

Photographies: new histories, new practices will focus on photography in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region from the earliest uses of the photographic medium up to the present day. The Conference will be interdisciplinary in scope, exploring connections with anthropology, ethics, history and much more. It aims to consider new ways of thinking about photographic history, writing and practice.

Sessions will include the following:

Photography and the Asia Pacific

Venue: Finkel Theatre, John Curtin School of Medical Research, ANU, Building 54 Garran Rd, Acton

Saturday 12 July
ANU CASS Public lecture, 4 to 5pm
Venue: National Library of Australia
