Research degrees (PhD and Master of Philosophy) are offered in all fields of study.

Coursework programs include a Master of Arts (New Media Arts & Technology) degree and a Graduate Diploma in Electronic Arts, and they may be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis. Through its affiliation with Graduate Studies in other disciplines opportunities are also provided for interdisciplinary studies.

Doctor of Philosophy
PhD applicants are required to carry out independent research which must make a substantial intellectual contribution and which demonstrates a capacity to relate
the research to the broader framework of the discipline. The outcomes of the research may be presented in the form of a written thesis or its equivalent, of a scope and size that could normally be expected to be completed in three years of fulltime study. It may include artistic work relevant to the field of study, as well as a written dissertation, and may incorporate video, compositions, documented live presentations and sound recordings, multimedia or other forms of visual or sonic art as appropriate to the research. This will be evaluated at the standard internationally recognised for the PhD degree in the relevant discipline(s). The Graduate School also encourages and facilitates cross-disciplinary research through student membership of more than one program. All students have a panel of three supervisors/advisers.

Prerequisites
Applicants seeking admission to the PhD must hold at least a degree of Bachelor with first or upper second class Honours of an Australian university in an appropriate discipline related to the proposed course of study; or such other qualification as the Prescribed Authority determines, being a qualification that is equivalent or superior to such a degree.

Admission Requirements
Application is made on the “Postgraduate Research Course and/or Scholarship Application” and must be accompanied by evidence of meeting the admission requirements. An admission panel will assess the application. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Convener of the Graduate Program, Eleanor Gates-Stuart, to discuss their application (6125 4830 or Eleanor.Gatestuart@anu.edu.au).

to develop further their creative and technical expertise in computer music and related digital audio signal processing, computer animation, digital video and other electronic imaging, interactive multimedia or some mixed media combination of these fields for artistic, technical or scientific perceptualisation purposes.

Prerequisites
Applicants seeking admission to the Master of Philosophy at least a degree of Bachelor with first or upper second class Honours of an Australian university in an appropriate discipline related to the proposed course of study; or such other qualification as the Prescribed Authority determines, being a qualification that is equivalent or superior to such a degree.
