The Australian National University
ANU Electron Microscopy Unit

Everyone wishing to use the Unit, even briefly, must make themselves known to a staff member. The EMU staff are responsible for teaching the basics of instrument operation - users must not show others how to operate any of the unit's facilities unless arrangements have been made beforehand. This is an issue of safety, to protect instruments and  to ensure everyone is familar with the current procedures.  It applies to everything, including computers and fumehoods.

New Users from the ANU

New users should discuss their project and any funding arrangements with the Coordinator (Dr Frank Brink).  They will be asked to fill in short registration forms (financial, induction, and risk assessment), which are available from the EMU or can be downloaded. A staff member will work with new users until they are considered to be sufficiently confident and capable of operating an instrument solo.

New Users - outside the ANU

The facilities of the ANU EM Unit are available by arrangement to staff and postgraduate students of other Australian universities and to external users. Charges vary depending on factors such as the amount of support needed, whether the work is for research purposes, whether the user is associated with a government department or a private company.
