CEDAM has two areas of research focus and strength:

  1. Higher Education

  2. Academic and Professional Practice.

CEDAM's research occurs through individual endeavour, engagement with with other ANU staff, working on funded research projects, and CEDAM's students.

Research focus 1:  Higher Education

  • research supervision policy and practice

  • doctoral education

  • aspects of assessment, evaluation and postdoctoral training.

Research focus 2:  Academic and Professional Practice

  • academic work
  • teaching, learning and curriculum in higher education
  • continuing professional learning
  • the teaching-research nexus.

Current research grants

  • 2007 The roles and practices of Australian Honours programs, funded by the Carrick Institute of
    Learning and Teaching in Higher Education: $185,000 (Margaret Kiley (lead applicant) with
    David Boud, UTS, Catherine Manathunga, UQ, and Robert Cantwell, Newcastle)
    to map the role of Honours across Australian Universities.

    2007 Research skill development: Questions of curriculum and pedagogy, funded by the Carrick
    Institute of Learning and Teaching in Higher Education: $200,000 Mandy Thomas (lead applicant) Margaret Kiley and Linda Hort, all of the ANU.
    to examine preparation of future academics through HDR programs in Go8 universities.

    2006: ARC Discovery Grant on the topic Research Capacity Building: The Development of Australian PhD Programs in National and Emerging Global Contexts is lead by Margot Pearson.

Recently completed research grants

2005 Leadership in Learning and Teaching, funded by the Carrick Institute of Learning and
Teaching in Higher Education: $200,000 with Linda Hort (lead applicant), Margaret Kiley,
Geoff Mortimore and Chris Trevitt, all of the ANU.
This project has worked with ANU staff groups to are pursue goals related to teaching and learning to develop their leadership capacities.
