The Graduate Certificate in Higher Education

Professional development to ehnance your practice as a university teacher, research supervisor and academic leader

 
 

Program commences Semester 2, 2008

The Vice-Chancellor is encouraging ANU academic staff to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Higher Education by waiving tuition fees for all eligible under the Staff Development Scholarship program The Graduate Certificate offers you professional development in the areas of university teaching, learning and curriculum; research supervision; and academic leadership. It is of particular relevance to:

  • Staff new to teaching and research supervision

  • Experienced teachers taking on an educational leadership role

  • Early career and postdoctoral researchers preparing for an academic career

  • Any member of staff whose current or future roles require management or leadership skills in an academic context

  • Curriculum groups reviewing their courses and programs

Two streams are offered:

Stream 1 - University Teaching and Curriculum

Stream 2 - Academic Leadership and Research Supervision

The GradCertHE is flexible in content, and allows participants to customise the focus of their study to their professional needs and interests. This program is designed to capitalise on much of the work that staff are already doing. The program is designed to be completed as an 18 month program of part-time study, but may be taken over 3 years.

Program outcomes

  • An informed and reflective approach to improving your practice, in the areas of teaching and learning, graduate supervision and/or academic leadership

  • Development of your academic and educational leadership potential

  • Designing and conducting projects investigating your academic practice

  • Building of a network of colleagues with a shared understanding of educational theory and practice

  • Credentials in higher education that are valued nationally and internationally
