About CEDAM
CEDAM – the Centre for Educational Development and Academic Methods - is an academic centre with a service role. The ANU’s commitment to resourcing CEDAM reflects a commitment to the importance of excellence in teaching and learning, research, and academic leadership within the University. CEDAM provides support and postgraduate programs for academic staff across all seven ANU Colleges while being formally attached to the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences.
Dr Linda Hort is CEDAM's Director; the core staff team is in the region of 5 academic and 10 general (professional and administrative) staff. In addition CEDAM hosts a number of Visiting Fellows who contribute expertise in management and leadership, and policy research in higher education.
What we do
1. Graduate programs
CEDAM offers graduate coursework programs with specialisations in teaching and learning, and research supervision and academic leadership and management. CEDAM also offers two reseach degree programs for individuals to pursue work within the CEDAM's research areas.
2. CEDAM's research
CEDAM has two areas of research focus and strength:
1. Higher Education
2. Academic and Professional Practice
CEDAM staff are engaged a number of nationally funded research grants which further their research projects.
3. Professional and Academic Development
CEDAM staff work closely with other University initiatives such as the ANU Tutors network, Graduate Services and the Teaching Forum. A flexible program of courses and workshops on aspects of academic practice provide professional development opportunities for academic staff in their roles as teachers, researchers and leaders – in particular regular Research Supervision workshops.
4. Evaluation processes
The Centre's evaluation services encompass designing, conducting, and reporting as appropriate, student evaluations of their courses and their University experience.
5. Teaching Quality and Career Development
Consultation with CEDAM staff is available on a one–to–one basis on any aspect of teaching and learning and academic career development. Appointments may be made by contacting individual staff or through ext 54594 or cedam@anu.edu.au.
